In January 2002, the G6 group of Councils, established an agreement to outsource
the provision of legal services, including legal advice, opinions, litigation and
drafting. This agreement is known as the G6 Legal Services Contract.
With the G6 Legal Services Contract in place, the sourcing of Legal Opinions was
decentralised within each of the individual Councils, which resulted in the
duplication of Legal Opinions being sourced from the Providers within and across
the G6 Councils. To address this issue, Adelaide City Council initiated the Legal
Opinions Knowledge Base (LOKB) project with the aim of developing a centralised
knowledge base to be used to request, store and search for Legal Opinions provided
by the Legal Providers to the G6 Councils.
On the 1st of January 2006, Adelaide City Council, City of Marion, City of Salisbury,
City of Charles Sturt, City of Tea Tree Gully and the City of Onkaparinga, entered
into a new G6 Legal Services Contract with the law firms of Norman Waterhouse, EMA
Legal and Wallmans Lawyers. This agreement now also includes the City of Mitcham.
